CHOOSING A SUPPORT SYSTEM:

Wire rope support systems provide benefits to make them a superior support method compared with threaded rod, jack chain and metal strap. Discover the ways a wire rope performs better than jack chain.

FOUR WAYS WIRE ROPE IS BETTER THAN JACK CHAIN:

Although jack chain can be used in similar situations where wire rope is used, several key differences make wire rope a superior option for any hanging application.

1. Flexibility

Although jack chain is flexible, its flexibility is limited. Chain links make it impossible to arrange at certain angles due to twisting and inability to bend. In contrast, wire rope comprises individual twisted strands throughout which is consistently flexible.

2. Adjustability

When installing multiple supports, installers often make final adjustments after the piece is in place to make sure everything is level. With the locking device on a wire rope system, it is easy to move the assembly up or down. However, jack chain requires the installer to reposition the chain, cut chain links, and rehang the entire piece.

3. Ease of Installation

Several tools are needed to properly position and secure a jack chain. However, wire rope mounting systems use fewer tools, so they are easier for installers to use, especially when suspended in the air on a lift or ladder.

4. Strength

Wire rope is stronger than jack chain. The entire length of chain is only as strong as the weakest link. If a link is damaged during production, storage or installation, it can compromise the security of the entire fixture. Wire rope combines individual strands and is less likely to be damaged compared to jack chain.
